I’ve always loved books. As a child, reading offered me an escape into another world and writing provided me with the chance to explore my own. I dreamed of becoming a published author. My early teachers commented on my imagination abilities, and over the years many people have expressed that I should write. However, this dream, like my many others, became buried and forgotten, while I was under the rule of King alcohol, captured in his kingdom of dark clouds.
In 2010 my life took a shocking turn of events, l reached the necessary rock bottom needed to admit l had a problem and began the process of recovering from my various addictions and mental health problems. Having a clear mind for the first time in many years, recovery gave me the awareness and the courage to face the issues l had around my gender identity. In 2012, I then began the process of transitioning from female to male.
Over the years since beginning recovery, I have been exploring the attic where all my dreams have been stored. One by one I have been dusting them off and bringing them into the light of day. In feeling passionate about the possibility of recovery and change, I felt a compelling desire to share this with others. I hoped that doing so many lessen the stigma and increase awareness around issues of mental health, addiction, and gender identity. In 2012, I began sharing my story in films, via my YouTube channel where I create regular video blogs under the name Finntheinfinncible. Alongside this, I am studying for a BA (Hons) in Psychology with the Open University. I also volunteer in the LGBTQ+ community, doing support work, drug, and alcohol outreach work and public speaking around transgender, recovery and mental health topics.
More recently, I have realised that I desire to take my passion for honest sharing forward, into the written word. I am now writing my personal story of recovery and gender transition, as well as creating articles, essays and short fiction stories around these topics.
Dreams really can come true, and that is something I very much want to share.
If I can be of any assistance, please do send me a message.
