Favourite writers cafes. Deliciously gorgeous cafe on the high-street in Eastbourne

As a self- employed freelance writer and content creator, it can be too easy to spend my time isolated indoors. However, spending too much time indoors isn’t good for my mental health, or anyone’s mental health for that matter. To give myself a change of scenery, I make an effort to get outside and write in various cafe’s. I thought it might be fun to share some of my favourite writing places with you. Here then, is a cafe review of Deliciously Gorgeous in Eastbourne.

Deliciously Gorgeous – Eastbourne Town Centre

If it wasn’t for the collection of tables and chairs outside, you would be forgiven for not noticing that Deliciously Gorgeous is a café. On my first visit, I realised I had walked past this place a few times myself in the past. On a quick glance, it looks like a garishly pink, boutique-style chocolate shop. I’ve since discovered this is in fact where its origins began.

First Impressions Of Deliciously Gorgeous

Walking inside you find yourself inside a pink Willy Wonker style paradise. Display counters to the left and right are stacked to the brim with beautiful delicate chocolates of every kind. The décor is a subtler pink inside than its shop front, but it is still lit up like a novelty Christmas tree. Despite sounding like I am judging, I honestly am not, I really like it!. Its’ unique quirky style should be too much, but somehow it isn’t. I have been here many times now and it is one of my favourite cafes in Eastbourne, for the following reasons.

Friendly and Welcoming Staff

Every time I walk through the door I am greeted with a warm smile and served speedily. This has been the same on weekdays and weekends. The table service is a lovely additional touch.

Cosy Atmosphere

This cafe has a lovely feel to the place. It feels as though you are sitting in someone’s living room. The decor is quirky but sophisticated, and it’s bright without being too imposing. It’s crisp, clean and has that wonderful independent café personal touch that you just don’t get in chain cafes. I can happily spend hours here writing.

Lots of Seating Choice

There is no shortage of seating at Deliciously Gorgeous. There is a small outside area with a few tables. Downstairs, there is a seating area tucked away at the back, and upstairs is a larger seating area overlooking the café. I found a little cubbyhole upstairs at the back with its own table right by a window, and this is now my favorite place to write.

The tables are a decent size and perfect height for writing on a laptop. The tables are mostly two to four-person seating. I prefer this style of seating to the long shared tables which you find in some cafés. The seats are comfy too, which are another must for the hard-working glutes of a writer!

Free Reliable Wi-Fi

There is free WIFI available which is easy to sign up to and has a strong reliable signal. Also, there are plenty of plug sockets available near to the seating areas, so you are never without power.

The Right Noise Levels at Deliciously Gorgeous

Even at very busy times, the noise in the café is never overwhelming. I think this is because the cafe is so spacious, and therefore you don’t feel like you are cramped in with everyone. When the music is on its never too loud. The loudest thing is the smoothie blender but that doesn’t happen often and where I sit at the back upstairs, it doesn’t bother me at all.

Great Quality Tea and Coffee and Diverse Menu Choices

The coffee is lovely at Deliciously Gorgeous. It is always piping hot and always the right amount of foam. You also get free chocolate with every drink!

On my second visit, the barista picked up on the fact that I asked for soya milk and asked me if I would like dairy-free chocolate too. I was offered a couple of choices and chose ginger. How wonderful that they picked up on this and that they had alternative options available!

The tea is also wonderful, they use the Tea Pigs range which they also sell. It can be hard to find Tea Pigs in supermarkets so finding somewhere that seels them is a bonus for me.

Thir menu is incredible, providing a wide variety of dietary options, vegetarian, vegan, gluten, and dairy-free. My favorite is the vegan banger sandwich!

Things to Improve on At Deliciously Gorgeous – Toilet Access

The only area that could be improved here is the toilets. Although accessing gender-specific toilets is no longer an issue for me, its something I am always conscious of as a trans person.

At Deliciously Gorgeous, there are two toilet cubicles, one labeled male, the other female. It would be wonderful to see these to individual cubicles just labeled as toilets, especially as they are self-contained.

Conclusion

For the things I look for in a café as a writer, Deliciously Gorgeous ticks all the boxes. This cafe is friendly, comfortable and quiet enough to easily spend half a day in and get lots of writing done.

If you are in Eastbourne I highly recommend a visit to Deliciously Gorgeous, because it really does live up to its name.
